FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Everything you need to know before sending your jewellery for engraving. If you are unsure, just get in touch.
How does the process work?
Send me an email or WhatsApp message with your request, including photos, details and any artwork you already have.
I will send you a price based on the piece, design and requirements. Once confirmed, you can post the jewellery to me securely.
When your pieces arrive, I will create a mockup for approval. Once you are happy with the layout, I will complete the engraving, send you photos of the finished piece and issue the invoice.
Once payment has been made, I will book the return parcel with Royal Mail and send the jewellery back to you securely.
What do you engrave?
I offer precision laser engraving on a range of jewellery pieces, including rings, pendants, charms, bangles, bracelets, cufflinks, tags and flat components.
I can engrave text, handwriting, fingerprints, symbols, logos, coordinates, dates, illustrations and custom artwork.
Do you only engrave and cut jewellery pieces?
No. Jewellery is my main focus, but I can also help with other small laser engraving and cutting projects.
If you have something in mind, send me a photo, size and material details, and I will let you know if it is suitable.
Do you work with jewellers?
Yes. A large part of my work is trade engraving for jewellers across the UK.
I work with independent jewellers, designers and small jewellery brands who need reliable engraving support without having to outsource to a large commercial supplier.
Can I send customer pieces to you for engraving?
Yes. You can post your customer pieces to me securely, and I will return them once the engraving is complete.
I always recommend using a tracked and insured postal service, especially for sentimental or high value jewellery.
What is the largest size you can engrave or cut?
The largest area I can engrave or cut is 70mm x 70mm.
If your piece is close to this size, please send me the measurements and a photo first so I can confirm it will fit properly.
Can you engrave handmade jewellery?
Yes. Handmade jewellery is very welcome.
Because handmade pieces can vary slightly in shape, size and surface finish, I will always check the piece first and advise on what is possible before engraving.
What materials can you engrave?
I can engrave a wide range of metals, including:
Gold
Silver
Platinum
Titanium
Stainless steel
Brass
Copper
Brass
Bronze
If you are unsure about a material, just send me a photo and a few details before posting the piece.
Can you engrave plated jewellery?
It depends on the piece.
Plated jewellery can sometimes engrave through the surface layer, which may reveal the base metal underneath. I can advise before going ahead, but plated jewellery is always a little more unpredictable than solid metal.
Can you engrave inside rings?
Yes. I can engrave inside rings, including names, dates, initials, coordinates, symbols and small illustrations.
The final result depends on the ring width, ring size, shape and how much space is available.
Do I need to provide artwork?
Not always.
If you already have artwork, you can send it over. If not, I can help prepare simple layouts, clean up designs or convert suitable artwork into a format ready for engraving.
Can you engrave handwriting?
Yes. Handwriting engraving is one of my favourite things to do.
For the best result, please send a clear photo or scan of the handwriting on a plain background. The clearer the image, the cleaner the engraving.
Can you engrave fingerprints?
Yes. I can engrave fingerprints onto suitable jewellery pieces.
For the best result, the fingerprint image needs to be clear, high contrast and taken in good lighting.

Can you engrave logos?
Yes, as long as the logo is suitable for engraving.
Simple, clear logo artwork works best. Very fine details may need to be adjusted slightly so they engrave cleanly at a small size.
Can you help with layout?
Yes. I can help create a mockup so you can see how the engraving will sit on the piece before it goes ahead.
Will the engraving be black?
Laser engraving can leave a dark finish, especially on certain metals.
Some customers like this because it makes the engraving stand out. Others prefer a softer, cleaner finish where the black marking is reduced or removed.
Can the black finish be removed?
In many cases, yes.
The black finish can often be softened or removed through finishing methods such as brushing, sanding, polishing or tumbling, depending on the metal and the piece.
Please let me know what finish you want before I start, especially if the final look is important for your customer.

Will engraving look the same on every metal?
No. Different metals react differently to laser engraving.
Gold, silver, platinum, titanium, brass and steel can all produce slightly different results. I will always aim for the cleanest finish possible for the material.
Can you engrave deeply?
Yes. I can engrave deeper where needed, especially for designs that will be filled with resin, enamel style colour or other inlay finishes.
Deep engraving takes longer than surface marking, so this may affect the price.
How much does engraving cost?
Pricing depends on the item, the material, the size of the engraving, the artwork preparation needed and how long the job will take.
Simple text engraving will usually cost less than detailed artwork, deep engraving or full background removal.
You are welcome to send photos and details for a quote.
Do you offer trade pricing?
Yes. I offer trade engraving support for jewellers.
If you are a jeweller and expect to send regular work, please get in touch and I can send over my trade price guide.
How long does engraving take?
Most engraving jobs are completed within 1 to 2 working days after the item arrives with me.
More detailed work, larger batches or jobs that need extra artwork preparation may take longer.
Do you offer urgent engraving?
Yes. If you have a tight deadline, please let me know before posting the item so I can confirm turnaround and prioritise where possible.
How do I send jewellery to you?
Once the engraving details are agreed, you can post the item to me using a tracked and insured delivery service.
Please package the jewellery securely and include your name, order details and return address inside the parcel.
How will my jewellery be returned?
Items are returned using Royal Mail tracked postal service.
For valuable or sentimental jewellery, I recommend using Special Delivery or an insured service for peace of mind.
Are my items safe?
I treat every piece with care, especially sentimental and customer supplied jewellery.
All items should be sent using a tracked and insured postal service so they are protected while in transit.
Are you insured?
Yes. I am insured for the work I carry out, including cover for accidental damage, and if it gets lost in the mail.
For jewellery sent in the post, I always recommend using a tracked and insured service. This gives extra protection while the piece is in transit to and from the studio.
Can you engrave small & large batches?
Yes. I can help with one off pieces, small batches and larger batch orders.
This is ideal for jewellers who need occasional engraving support, seasonal collections, personalised pieces or repeat trade work.
Can you laser cut as well as engrave?
Yes. I can offer laser cutting for certain materials and projects. Max thickness is 1.3mm.
This can be helpful for jewellers during busy seasons, sample making, components, tags or custom shapes.
Do you make jewellery?
No, I do not make finished jewellery pieces from start to finish.
I offer laser engraving, laser cutting and finishing support.
For example, I can cut, engrave and clean components, but you would need to complete the final jewellery making, such as adding chains, setting stones, soldering, assembling or turning the piece into a finished item ready to sell.
Still have a question?
If you are unsure whether your piece can be engraved or cut, send over a photo and a few details.
I will let you know what is possible and advise on the best option before anything goes ahead.
